Group Exhibition Break Zenya 2024 in Osaka

Taro Yakumo participated in the group exhibition “Break Zenya 2024 in Osaka,” held at ART GALLERY UMEDA from May 8 to May 14, 2024.

The exhibition was organized in connection with the television program Break Zenya: Next-Generation Artists, broadcast on BS Fuji. The program introduces emerging artists who are on the verge of wider recognition, highlighting practices that are expected to expand both domestically and internationally.

For this edition, 23 artists were selected from among those previously featured on the program, forming a curated exhibition that reflects the evolving landscape of contemporary art in Japan. The title “Break Zenya,” meaning “the night before a breakthrough,” emphasizes a pivotal moment in an artist’s career, capturing the transition toward broader visibility.

Held at ART GALLERY UMEDA within the Daimaru Umeda department store, the exhibition brought together a diverse audience in one of Osaka’s major commercial and cultural hubs. This context allowed the artworks to engage not only with established collectors but also with a wider public encountering contemporary art in an accessible environment.

Following previous participation in related exhibitions, his inclusion in this edition further reinforces his position within a network of artists gaining recognition through both media exposure and curatorial selection. The exhibition highlights an ongoing trajectory aligned with the next generation of artists shaping the contemporary art scene.
