Group Exhibition Now Selection - Break Zenya

Taro Yakumo participated in the group exhibition “Now Selection – Break Zenya,” held at ASTER GALLERY from October 14 to November 12, 2023

This exhibition was presented as a collaboration between the television program Break Zenya: Next-Generation Artists, which introduces emerging artists poised to gain wider recognition, and renowned Japanese curator Yuji Akimoto. The project brought together selected artists featured by the program, highlighting practices that reflect the evolving landscape of contemporary art in Japan.

Broadcast on BS Fuji, Break Zenya: Next-Generation Artists has introduced over 380 artists since its launch in 2016. The program focuses on artists at a pivotal stage in their careers, positioning them at the threshold of broader recognition both domestically and internationally. The title “Break Zenya” literally suggests “the night before a breakthrough,” emphasizing a moment of transition and potential within an artist’s trajectory.

Held in Kanazawa, a city known for its rich cultural heritage and growing contemporary art presence, the exhibition provided a platform where emerging artistic voices intersect with curatorial direction and media exposure.
